Unique Events delivers Scotland’s Big Year in 2014...
As a spectacular Edinburgh’s Hogmanay festival closes the year and kick-starts an exciting year of events ahead in 2015, Unique Events would like to thank everyone who helped make 2014 one of the biggest and most event packed ever!
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay / Scotland’s Hogmanay
‘Scotland’s Big Year Starts Here’ was how Unique Events signalled the beginning of the ‘Year of Homecoming 2014’ with one of our most ambitious projects to date. Unique launched the biggest year of events ever held in Scotland with ‘Scotland’s Hogmanay’, a series of simultaneous firework displays held in Edinburgh, Stonehaven, Stirling and Inverness. Celebrations across Scotland united by spectacular fireworks and a unique ‘Homecoming Firework’ sequence created by our pyrotechnic partners Titanium. At the centre of it all were the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations created and produced by Unique Events.
Film in the City 2014
Having produced outdoor cinema events in Edinburgh for over a decade, in 2014 Unique Events brought not one but three screening events to the capital. ‘Film in the City’ showcased the very best in classic cinema at events throughout June in both the Grassmarket & St Andrew’s Square areas to thousands of avid film fans. A new Grassmarket Outdoor Cinema introduced ‘dance-a-long’ screenings where the award-winning Dancebase showed audiences the moves to their favourites films. St Andrew Sq. presented a packed 3-day programme of classic cinema to promote the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Commonwealth Games - Queens Baton Relay Edinburgh Event
West Princes Street Gardens hosted Edinburgh’s evening celebrations to welcome the Commonwealth Games 2014 - Queen’s Baton Relay. The event featured an exciting mix of sport, music and dance for all the family, plus special guest appearances from sporting stars in association with Glasgow 2014 and Team Scotland. ‘Still Game’ star Sanjeev Kohli hosted the concert with performances from contemporary folk bank Rura, alternative Scottish hip-hop group Stanley Odd, harpist and star of BBC’s ‘The Voice’ Anna McLuckie, and the Love Music Community Choir.
A sell-out audience of 20,000 spectators travelled to Stirling to join Bannockburn Live, commemorating 700 years since one of the most famous battles in Scottish history. Unique Events created and produced the 2-day spectacular which included the largest battle re-enactment to be held in Scotland. The battle re-enactments were choreographed by Clanranald, famous for their work on Hollywood blockbusters such as Gladiator, Robin Hood and Thor 2. Visitors could also enjoy the sights and sounds of 14th century Scotland at the Battle Encampments, whilst a full programme of traditional and contemporary Scottish music and art were presented on live music stages.
Film in the Old College Quad
The University of Edinburgh’s Old College quadrangle was transformed into an open air cinema in August for a week-long series of film screenings. The first outdoor cinema to take place in the Quad, the stunning setting creates a perfect arena for the event which included screenings of classics Trainspotting, The Big Lebowski, Ghostbusters and many others.
Forth Road Bridge 50th Birthday Party
This unique and spectacular event saw fireworks and thousands of torches light up the Forth Road Bridge on the evening of Saturday 13 September, celebrating 50 years since the bridge opened and forming the finale to the Forth Bridges Festival as well as a signature event in the Year of Homecoming Scotland 2014.
