A landmark event as part of 2014 - Year of Homecoming Scotland
2014 saw the 700th Anniversary of The Battle of Bannockburn and the opening of the new National Trust for Scotland Battle of Bannockburn visitor centre. The event brief was looking for an event management company to conceive of and delivery an appropriate celebration on the grounds that was both sensitive to and worthy of such an occasion.
Working on the event for a period of eighteen months, Unique Events devised an arena layout that optimised the natural beauty of the land, creating five distinct areas; Music; Storyville; Clans Village; Food & Drink; 1314. Each area had its own structures, access and facilities to take into consideration as well as the land’s natural undulations.
A programme of live music, storytelling, comedy, discussions, ‘have a go’ archaeology and a mass battle re-enactment was devised to provide a variety of entertainment throughout the event that would appeal to the broad demographic of visitors that was always in keeping with the ethos of the event.
Being a key event of part of Homecoming 2014 and in a very important year for Scotland, there was a large amount of client and agency liaison that required clear and constant communication throughout the planning and delivery.
