Throughout the last 20 years, Unique have produced most of the major one-off events broadcast from Scotland to international audiences, working with BBC Scotland and BBC Network, Channel 4, Scottish Television (STV), ITV, CBS America, Sky and MTV.
The following are some of the highlights:
The Millennium broadcast
On 31 December 1999, BBC London were the link broadcaster for the worldwide millennium programme which covered every continent. In the UK, Edinburgh and London (the opening of the Dome) were the main focal points. Anchored by Kirsty Wark, all of the Edinburgh show including live pictures of people, events and fireworks were coordinated in conjunction with Unique Events. Edinburgh’s midnight fireworks (from the seven hills of the city) were seen in sequence with the other international displays from Sydney, Moscow, Paris, New York.
MTV EMA Awards
Unique worked with MTV Europe to produce an open-air concert and provide live pictures for the MTV Awards which were held in Edinburgh in November 2003. While the studio event was held in Leith, the live concert was broadcast from Princes Street Gardens, featuring the Chemical Brothers, Flaming Lips and presented by Vin Diesel.
| Unique also worked with MTV America to launch MTV2 to Europe with a concert at Edinburgh Concert on 31 December 2000. Unique worked with local television producers Skyline to broadcast a live concert from Moby who had the most successful album of the year.
Rolf on Art Live! BBC Show
Working closely with the BBC, National Galleries of Scotland, and the City of Edinburgh Council and watched by a UK television audience of over 4 million viewers, Unique coordinated the infrastructure and activities surrounding the Rolf on Art Live! event which was broadcast on Sunday 28 August, 2005. Unique created a huge arts event in Mound Precinct, Edinburgh, which saw Rolf Harris lead hundreds of artists in an attempt to recreate the Mona Lisa on a giant 9m x 6m canvas as part of an hour long live television special.
