Unique has been appointed to produce a pilot programme of summer events in the Grassmarket, Edinburgh, following the recent redevelopment of the area. The GrassMarkets will run throughout the summer on the first Sunday of the month, until September, offering a range of arts and crafts, food and drink, retro and vintage clothing, children’s toys and books, plants and flowers. Each market will feature guest animations and host a programme of soft summer music. Film Festival Under the Stars, produced in collaboration with Edinburgh International Film Festival, takes place on Saturday 20 June. Developed from the highly successful open air screenings previously held on the Mound, this year’s films have been selected to highlight the work of the EIFF patrons. The Summer Dancin’ on Saturday 4 July will bring the Grassmarket alive with an eclectic mix of music and dance. Following the success of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay The Dancin’ event and again produced in partnership with Dance Base, Scotland’s award winning National Centre for Dance, this celebration marks Dance Base students end of term with demonstrations and participation for all with an early evening tea dance followed by the Summer Dancin’ Serenade a programme of light summer Latin music. Unique will work with The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival when the 2009 Mardi Gras returns to the Grassmarket on Saturday 1 August, with three hours of non-stop music.
